What to Expect at Swiss Colony
Swiss Colony is a friendly country church located in the Swiss Colony community near Woodcreek Lake in London, Kentucky.
Our church begins our Sunday services at 10:00am when we gather to meet with our Discipleship Groups. Under the leadership of our Director of Discipleship, Bro. Jake Roberts, SCBC has Discipleship Groups for all ages led by leaders and teachers who love their students and the Word of God. If you have a specific group you’ve been invited to, you can make your way to the location of that class in our church’s facility at 10am, or you can join us in the Family Life Center (Gym) at 9:55am where we will be glad to greet you and introduce you to the leader of a group you can join!
You are encouraged to bring a copy of the Bible with you, but we also have copies available in our meeting rooms and the main church sanctuary for you to use while you are with us. You are invited to use any version of the Scriptures with which you are familiar and comfortable- common versions brought by our members and guests include the King James Version (KJV), the Christian Standard Bible (CSB), the New International Version (NIV), the New King James Version (NKJV), and the English Standard Version (ESV), among others. Our Discipleship Groups provide Bible study books that serve as a guide for our church’s study of God’s word, help us to grow in following Christ, and provide additional information that will help you as you explore and learn about the Bible and following Christ through life’s opportunities and challenges together with others on the same journey.
At approximately 10:50am, our Discipleship groups will begin dismissing and our members will guide you to the sanctuary in the main church facility for our morning worship service. Our service includes singing from traditional hymn books (typically the Baptist Hymnal) and the sharing of contemporary, gospel, and other styles of music through special music. Our church is led in worship by our Director of Music, Bro. Rick Moore, our church pianist, Bro. Rick Brown, and other volunteers serving in our music and worship ministry. During the service, Bro. Chris Miniard, our Youth Director and one of our Deacons, will share announcements and prayer requests with the congregation.
Following worship through music and song, our pastor, Dr. Jake Brock, will share a sermon from the Word of God and an invitation to respond to God’s leading will be given at the close of the service. Our worship services typically last an hour, and you can plan for the Sunday morning service to close at approximately noon. We allow the Holy Spirit time to work as He directs above all, and we thoroughly enjoy the fellowship of one another in our church family, but we also recognize the challenges and demands of the various responsibilities and commitments of our members.
Our church is what many would describe as a rural, country church. Regarding clothing and what to wear to our services, you will find a wide range in our midst. You are welcome to come dressy, casual and everything in between! We look forward to seeing and meeting you, however you come dressed!
