What to Expect at SCBC

Swiss Colony is a friendly country church located in the Swiss Colony community near Woodcreek Lake in London, Kentucky. Our church begins our Sunday services at 10:00am when we gather for Sunday School. SCBC offers classes for all ages taught by teachers who love their students and the Word of God. If you have a specific class you have been invited to, you can make your way to the location of that class in our church’s facility at 10am, or you can join us in the main church sanctuary at 9:55am where we will be glad to greet you and introduce you to the teacher of a class you can join! You are encouraged to bring a copy of the Bible with you, but we also have copies available in our class rooms and main church sanctuary for you to use while you are with us. You are invited to use any version of the Scriptures with which you are familiar and comfortable- common versions brought by our members and guests include the King James Version (KJV), the Holman Christian Standard Bible (CSB), the New International Version (NIV), the New King James Version (NKJV), and the English Standard Version (ESV), among others. Our classes provide Bible study books which serve as a guide for our church’s study of God’s word and provide additional information that you may find helpful as you explore and learn about the Bible together with others on the same journey.

At approximately 10:50am, our Sunday School classes will begin dismissing and our members will guide you to the auditorium in the main church facility for our morning worship service. Our service includes singing from traditional hymn books (typically the Baptist Hymnal) and the sharing of contemporary, gospel and other styles of music through special music. Following a time of worship through music and song, our pastor will share a sermon from the Word of God and an invitation to respond to God’s leading will be given at the close of the service. Our worship services typically last an hour, and you can plan for the service to close at approximately noon. We allow the Holy Spirit time to work as He directs above all, and we thoroughly enjoy the fellowship of one another in our church family, but we also recognize the time limitations and responsibilities of people in today’s busy world.

Our church is what many would describe as a rural, country church. With regards to clothing and how to expect to dress, you will find a wide range in our midst. You are welcome to come dressy, casual and everything in between! We look forward to seeing and meeting you, however you come dressed! We also provide an excellent optional Children’s Church and child-care program, “KidWorship,” during our morning worship service for your children.
